Body found with signs of violence in San José del Cabo
The authorities of Baja California Sur began an investigation into the possible fourth feminicide of the year, after the lifeless body of a woman with obvious traces of aggression was found in a home under construction in San José del Cabo. The discovery occurred on the morning of August 1 in the Santa Rosa neighborhood, when a worker alerted the authorities after locating the body.
Protocols and lines of research
The State Attorney General’s Office (PGJE) confirmed that the protocol with a gender perspective was applied during the intervention of the criminalistics team. Although the victim remains unidentified, a folder was opened in the Femicide Crime Investigation Unit. So far, no details about suspects or motives have been revealed.
If confirmed as a feminicide, this would be the fourth case in BCS in 2025. According to data from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SESNSP), in June there were already three victims. Among them, Professor Francisca Guadalupe Pérez Espinoza, murdered in Ciudad Insurgentes by her own son.
Context of violence and failed strategies
The state faces a recurrent crisis of violence against women. In 2024, 3,344 complaints of domestic violence, 8 femicides and almost 2,000 sexual assaults were reported. Despite the “Stop Violence” program, relaunched that same year, Governor Víctor Castro Cosío admitted that the measures have not generated the expected impact.
This case reopens the debate on the effectiveness of public policies and the urgency of strengthening protection mechanisms. Meanwhile, civil organizations demand transparency in investigations and concrete actions to stop impunity.
