Official figures arrive in port
From Manzanillo, President Claudia Sheinbaum presented the numbers. The narrative is clear: honesty and breaking down privilege get results. The headline is a 26% annual reduction in intentional homicide in Colima.
“Honesty pays off, ending privilege pays off, supporting those who have less pays off,” declared Sheinbaum.
The daily average of victims went from 2.3 in 2024 to 1.7 in 2025. For February 2026, the authority reports a national figure of 50.2 daily homicides, compared to 91.7 in February of last year.
The strategy behind the percentages
Marcela Figueroa Franco, from the Executive Secretariat of Public Security, explained that the monthly decrease is 25% since November 2024. In the municipality of Colima the reduction is 14%.
Omar García Harfuch, Secretary of Security, displayed operational numbers: more than 4,400 elements deployed and almost 2,800 arrests for serious crimes since October 2024. He also reported the seizure of more than four and a half tons of drugs and hundreds of weapons.
Undersecretary Rocío Bárcena Molina added the social component: more than 39,000 services provided, dozens of committees and peace fairs set up, and a program where 58 weapons were exchanged for cash.
Sheinbaum did not miss the opportunity to make historical memories and compare with past administrations. A common exercise in his conferences to contextualize—or contrast—the present.
