Cycle towards 2026
Germany arrives at the 2026 World Cup as a member of UEFA and located in Group E. The FIFA ranking for April 2026 places it in tenth place. Julian Nagelsmann has led the team since September 2023, after the departure of Hansi Flick. Joshua Kimmich retains the captaincy.
Recent performance and key dates
In the 2022 World Cup, Germany was eliminated in the group stage after losing to Japan, drawing with Spain and beating Costa Rica. As host of Euro 2024, they beat Scotland and Hungary in the initial phase, then eliminated Denmark and lost in the quarterfinals to Spain (2-1 in extra time).
In March 2026, the team played friendlies against Switzerland (March 27) and Ghana (March 30), used as tests before the World Cup.
Identity and commercial changes
Germany maintains its traditional home uniform: white t-shirt, black shorts and white socks. The shield includes four stars for world titles (1954, 1974, 1990, 2014). After 70 years with Adidas, in March 2024 Nike was announced as the new apparel sponsor.
Television coverage
Since January 2025, friendlies have been broadcast on RTL, ARD and ZDF. Official matches (qualifiers, Nations League and major tournaments) are broadcast by ARD and ZDF.
Historical references
Lothar Matthäus holds the record for most appearances (150), while Miroslav Klose is the top scorer with 71 goals. These data set the selection standards.
