The uncomfortable silence of Galilee
Galilea Montijo, the queen of awkward moments, lived another of those uncomfortable moments that seem taken from an episode of Keeping Up with the Televisa. They asked her about her comadre Inés Gómez Mont, that friend who has been missing from the radar for longer than the worthy endings in soap operas. Since 2021, Inés and her husband, Víctor Álvarez Puga, are the protagonists of a legal thriller: the FGR is looking for them for organized crime and money laundering (nothing more and nothing less than 2,950 million pesos, because in this country even scandals have inflation).
From enemies to comadres (and then to ghosts)
Do you remember when these two went from throwing shade at Ventaneando to being BFFs who shared parties, trips and photos on Instagram? Well, those times were left in the “things that have aged badly” file. Inés disappeared from networks in 2023, leaving a mysterious message about “facing a legal process” (spoiler: it didn’t go well). Meanwhile, Galilea continues smiling in front of the cameras, but when they ask her about her comadre, her smile freezes as if they had mentioned the controversial aunt at the family dinner.
The most ironic thing: a few years ago, Gómez Mont said that Montijo was an uneducated “doña teibol” who only wanted to marry a Televisa magnate. But then, oh surprise!, they became wives and even godmothers to their daughter. Because in the world of entertainment, hatred is as temporary as TikTok trends.
The glamor is over (and so are the bank accounts)
Before becoming a luxury fugitive, Inés lived her best life: parties, trips and outfits that cost more than a house. Until the UIF told him “hold my receipts” and froze his accounts. Although in March a court gave them a break (because in Mexico justice is slower than Telmex’s internet buffering), the show was already over.
The last thing that was known about their friendship was a tender birthday message from Galilea in 2021: “I miss you, we will celebrate now.”. Spoiler: they didn’t celebrate. And when the journalist Edén Muñoz asked her about Inés, Montijo blurted out the most millennial phrase to evade questions: “I’m a good friend, that’s why I keep quiet.”. Translation: “I don’t want to be canceled by association.”
