FIFA confirmed that the 2026 World Cup final will have a halftime show with Madonna, Shakira and the band BTS. It will be the first time that halftime of the game includes a concert of this magnitude, similar to that of the Super Bowl.
The event will take place on July 19 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. The show will be curated by Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, who had the idea four years ago while watching the previous tournament.
A solidarity cause
The show will support FIFA’s Global Citizen Education Fund, which seeks to raise $100 million so children can access education and football.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino said: “Every child should have the opportunity to dream, and together we can help make that possible.” At the Global Citizen NOW conference in New York, he added: “When you’re in a position of responsibility, you want to do everything you can to have a real impact.”
Hugh Evans, executive director of the nonprofit Global Citizen, said Martin proposed the idea for the show. FIFA and Global Citizen partnered for this project.
Event details
The exact duration of the show has not yet been reported, although the break in football should not exceed 15 minutes. FIFA describes it as “a singular moment at the intersection of sport, culture and purpose, broadcast live around the world.”
The 2026 World Cup is organized jointly by the United States, Canada and Mexico, and will be held during June and July. The final will feature this innovative show that promises to unite music and football on the sport’s biggest stage.
