Meeting at the National Palace
The King of Spain, Felipe VI, will meet next Thursday, June 25, with the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, in Mexico City. The meeting will be held at the National Palace, as confirmed by sources from the Royal Family.
The monarch will arrive accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, and the Minister of Education, Milagros Tolón. The agenda combines diplomacy and sport: a day later, the king will travel to Guadalajara to watch the World Cup match between Spain and Uruguay.
Context of approach
The visit occurs after months of diplomatic approaches. Sheinbaum formally invited the monarch at the beginning of the year, highlighting the historical and cultural value of bilateral ties. The Royal Family described the trip as part of an “intensification of relations” between both countries.
The meeting seeks to strengthen cooperation on issues of mutual interest, at a time when the bilateral relationship has shown signs of reactivation.
