Featherweight investigated for alleged ties to money laundering

The star of the corrido tumbado, Peso Pluma, is under scrutiny by the authorities for possible financial ties to organized crime.

The shadow of the drug trafficker reaches the king of the corrido lying down

Hey, this is serious. The Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime (FEMDO) and the Financial Intelligence Unit (UIF) are following the money trail. And that trail, according to reports, leads to Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, alias ‘El Mencho’, and his network.

But here is the twist that no one expected in this drug soap opera: the investigation also points towards the record label DEL Records. And guess which artist is signed to them. Exactly: Featherweight.

An unwanted featuring?

According to specialized journalist Antonio Nieto, the singer’s name appears linked to the financial and production structure that is being investigated. It’s not that they are accusing him directly, but his name in those papers has already set off all the alarms.

“The document highlights the importance of following the clues of economic flows that could be related to illicit operations,” says the report.

Translation: They are reviewing every peso that comes in and out, trying to separate what comes from streams on platforms from what could come from other types of… business.

Imagine the scene. Hassan Kabande (his real name) went from a relatively unknown kid to a global superstar in what seems like the blink of an eye. Their narcocorridos are anthems. His tour fills stadiums. Money flows in abundance.

The uncomfortable question now hanging in the air is: is all that flow clean? The Mexican authorities in charge of combating money laundering clearly have their doubts and are determined to find answers.

This puts Featherweight in a very complicated position. On the one hand, he is the most successful Mexican artist of the moment. On the other hand, he now has to prove that his meteoric success was built only on talent and not on dangerous connections.

The world of entertainment and organized crime in Mexico have a long and murky history. This investigation could be the most recent chapter… and one of the most talked about.

Selena Gomez reveals her outfit at Taylor Swift’s wedding

The singer wore a champagne Oscar de la Renta dress at the exclusive celebration.

Swift-Kelce wedding details

The secrecy surrounding the wedding of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce is beginning to dissipate. Among the guests, Selena Gómez shared the dress she wore for the celebration on social media.

Gómez opted for a champagne-colored design by Dominican Oscar de la Renta. The gold dress had thin straps and delicate fringes. She accessorized it with a wavy bob hairstyle and pointy sneakers in the same shade.

The actress came accompanied by her husband, Benny Blanco, who wore a classic black suit.

Taylor Swift and the NFL player welcomed nearly a thousand guests on July 3 at Madison Square Garden. The Empire State Building, with a special link to Swift, was illuminated light blue as part of the tradition of ‘something new, something old and something blue’, a symbol of good fortune in marriage.

Huevocartoon jumps into live action with “Al agua patos”

Huevocartoon's first live action film, based on an international success, with Adal Ramones as the protagonist.

Huevocartoon, a Mexican studio known for its animated egg films, is preparing for its first live-action project. The film will be titled “Ducks Overboard” and will revolve around a group of unsuccessful synchronized swimming men. Adal Ramones will lead the cast.

The story has an international journey: it began as a Swedish documentary, then it was adapted to film by French producers (premiered in Cannes 2018) and later the British made their own version. Ramones and Huevocartoon acquired the license for the British version to bring it to Spanish for the first time, with the support of Elefantec, Pepe Bastón’s company, responsible for films such as “Do you want to be my son?” and “Operation Merry Christmas.”

“We and I bought the Huevocartoon license and we already have the money from various parties, we are waiting for the latest, now it is in the hands of Pepe. I already warned that this year I no longer have space —laughs—, so I think we will throw it away for next year,” said Ramones.

Rodolfo Rivapalacio, from Huevocartoon, will be the main director. His brother Gabriel will accompany him as co-director. Gabriel explained that the script is already ready and that this bet is safer for his live action debut.

“The script is already polished and is spectacular. It is a slightly safer bet because since it is our first feature film in live action, the distributing studios look at you with the look of: ‘ah, son, you are very good at animation’, but how about live action? Better something safe—in history—right?”, he pointed out.

Regarding direction, he added: “In animation I take the lead a little more, my brother helps me more like a co-director, but here in live action it’s just his thing, so he’s the director and I’m the co-director. We already have the casting, but we don’t have it yet —laughs—, it will be announced.”

Huevocartoon has been one of the strong brands of Mexican animation since 2005, when it launched “A movie of eggs” after its success on the internet. In total he has produced three feature films for cinema, adding more than 8 million viewers, and two more in streaming. They had previously tried to create a live-action vampire project, but it did not prosper.

“Al agua patos” will mark Adal Ramones’ first leading role in a comedy feature film. Previously he had important roles in “Santos peregrinos”, “Kings against Santa” and the drama “Martin at dawn”.
