A new king for Wakanda

Marvel Studios closed its panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2026 with an expected announcement. Ryan Coogler took the stage to confirm that David Jonsson will play T’Challa II, the son of King T’Challa, in Black Panther II. The film will hit theaters on December 15, 2028.

The news surprised followers. Rumors circulated for months about who would inherit Wakanda’s legacy, but few were betting on the 32-year-old British actor. In recent years, Jonsson has become one of the promises of Hollywood.

“The honor is completely mine,” said the actor on stage, visibly moved, after thanking Ryan Coogler and Kevin Feige.

Who is David Jonsson?

He was born in London and started in theater before making the leap to British television. His big break came with the series Industry (HBO), where he played Gus Sackey. Since then he has built an ascending career in science fiction, drama and horror.

Details about ‘Black Panther II’

In the film, Jonsson will not replace Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa. He will play T’Challa II, who will assume his father’s legacy. Ryan Coogler returns as director. Letitia Wright will return as Shuri, Winston Duke as M’Baku and Denzel Washington joins the cast in a still-secret role.
