Mexico advances in the containment of the screwworm with international support!
The power of collaboration is bearing fruit in one of the most important challenges for the Mexican agricultural sector. Following the temporary closure of the US border to livestock exports, comes hopeful news! A team of 32 specialists from the USDA (U.S. Department of Agriculture) is working closely with Mexican authorities to evaluate progress in the binational strategy against screwworm (GBG).
A joint effort with a vision for the future
As shared by Secretary Julio Berdegué Sacristán, this technical visit demonstrates that challenges are overcome with unity and action. The experts will tour the most affected states—Chiapas, Tabasco, Campeche and Quintana Roo—to verify the measures implemented. But they will not stop there: San Luis Potosí will also be key in this mission, where the protocols for the safe mobilization of livestock will be analyzed.
Did you know that every step counts? This campaign not only seeks to reopen exports, but also to strengthen animal health in the long term. It is an example of how obstacles can become opportunities to innovate and grow!
The plague that mobilized two nations
GBG is not just a local problem; It is a reminder that livestock health is a global priority. The continuous meetings between Mexico and the US, as Berdegué highlighted, are the seed for sustainable solutions. Jesús María Montemayor Garza, secretary in Coahuila, highlighted the importance of this visit: “Transparency and rigorous work bring us closer to the goal.”
While veterinarians inspect critical areas, livestock producers are demonstrating admirable resilience. Every prevention measure, every technical report, adds up to protect this pillar of the rural economy!
What’s next in this inspiring fight?
The road does not end here. With each evaluation, Mexico refines its strategies and gets closer to eradicating this pest. The active participation of everyone—governments, experts, and ranchers—is the driving force behind this change. Let’s celebrate these advances and continue learning from them!
