EU stands up to Trump on Iran
The European Union has just given a clear response to Donald Trump. No, they are not going to play the military game in the Strait of Hormuz. And they have said it with all the letters.
Kaja Kallas, the European high representative, was direct: “Europe is not part of this war.” His message left no doubt about the community position.
“NATO has no role to play in that scenario”
This is important. It’s not just a ‘no, thank you’. It is an institutional rejection that marks distances with Washington. While Trump talks from the White House about countries willing to support – without naming them – Europe draws its own red line.
European allies align themselves
Germany and Spain have been especially clear. For them, NATO is a defensive alliance, not an instrument of intervention. They prefer diplomatic solutions rather than gunboats.
The backdrop is economical. About 20% of the world’s oil passes through Hormuz. The tension is already driving up prices and making markets nervous.
But Europe seems determined. He prefers to negotiate than shoot. In a world where alliances are tested every day, Brussels has just shown its cards.
