An accusation that returns after three decades
Timothy Busfield’s legal case becomes complicated. And not because of the new accusations of child abuse that we already know about, but because someone from the past decided to raise their voice again.
Eiza Roberts, sister-in-law of Julia Roberts, came out to speak to the American press. His message was clear: he asked the authorities and the public not to discredit the allegations against the actor.
“A person who engages in this type of behavior should not be free to continue doing so for decades,” Roberts said, according to The New York Post.
What is striking here is the context. This did not start in January with the arrest warrant for the accusations of two children. This comes from afar.
A ghost from 1994
It turns out that Eiza had already spoken more than 30 years ago. In 1994, when a 17-year-old girl accused Busfield of sexual harassment, Roberts filed a statement supporting her.
According to the Daily Mail, he called the actor a “pervert” at the time. He said he tried to convince her to have sex and even complained about his wife at the time.
Three decades later, that voice is heard again. Just as Busfield faces new charges and is awaiting trial (he was released on bail).
On the other hand, the actor and director denies everything. His defense maintains that the current case is retaliation. The children’s parents accused him after being fired from “The Cleaning Lady,” a series where Busfield worked.
While the courts decide, Hollywood has another name on the uncomfortable list. And an old testimony that, for some, sounds more relevant than ever.
