With more than 48 years of experience, Eduardo Yáñez is one of the most beloved actors of the Mexican public. However, today he is the one who seeks out producers to get a role. And many times, you get a ‘no’.
In an interview with Matilde Obregón, Yáñez bluntly acknowledged that she is not ashamed to ask for a job. He starred in hits like Destilando amor and Fuego en la sangre, but now his priority is to continue active and growing as a performer.
Without fear of rejection
The journalist asked him if the rejections affect him. His response was direct:
“I knock on doors, I don’t feel sorry, they send me to the chin* many times, (it doesn’t feel like it), I’m just getting used to it, it doesn’t even feel like mothers anymore, (…) I became shameless knocking on doors, I don’t feel any shame in finding out about a project and offering my services, it’s part of the career.”
With the humor that characterizes him, the actor explained that at first he did suffer when offers began to become scarce.
“The first time they throw you out, well, you feel horrible, don’t you? The second time, you get angry, (you say), ‘how do you think? If I have been in my career for so many years,’ it’s all an internal dialogue, usually, it’s fateful, but you get used to it, but someone, in the US, told me: ‘it’s not personal.'”
Yáñez assures that he now takes it as part of the job. There is no resentment, just the conviction to move forward in an industry that is not always generous to veterans.
