A step towards justice in Veracruz
The Attorney General of Veracruz has struck a decisive blow against crime with the arrest of two alleged members of a criminal group linked to the kidnapping of Irma Hernández Cruz, a brave taxi driver and retired teacher who refused to give in to extortion in Álamo Temapache. This case not only reflects the fight against organized crime, but also the courage of those who face injustice.
Coordinated operation with tangible results
The detainees, identified as Víctor Manuel “N” and José Eduardo “N”, were captured in Cerro Azul thanks to meticulous intelligence and field work. During the operation, vehicles, firearms, ammunition, a knife, cell phones, cash and suspected marijuana were seized. The collaboration between the Secretariat of National Defense, the Navy, the SSP and the Ministerial Police was key to this achievement.
The discovery of Irma Hernández’s body on July 24 on a ranch in the region shocked the community. Before her death, she appeared in a video under duress by 12 armed men, forced to send a threatening message to her fellow taxi drivers. Governor Rocío Nahle confirmed that the victim suffered extreme violence, which would have triggered a fatal heart attack.
“We cannot allow fear to paralyze our society,” Nahle declared in a radio interview, underlining the importance of trusting the authorities. This case highlights the urgency of strengthening protection mechanisms for those who challenge organized crime.
