When austerity is just a hashtag
Ah, republican austerity, that concept that is so beautiful in speeches but as uncomfortable as a wool sweater in summer when it comes to applying it. It seems that Sergio Gutiér Luna, the Morenista president of the Chamber of Deputies, and his wife, Karina Barreras (alias “Protected Data” after that media show due to allegations of gender violence), love to preach water while drinking champagne. And not just any champagne, but the one that comes with Cartier, Balenciaga and Prada labels.
The wardrobe that we all pay for
The academic Jorge García Orozco became the Sherlock Holmes of social networks by exposing, with photos and videos more detailed than a Vogue catalogue, the whims of this couple. Hublot watches that are worth more than an apartment in the province, Fendi bags that could feed a family for months, and Louboutin shoes that shine brighter than their electoral promises. In total, he estimates that they have invested about 4.7 million pesos in pretending what they criticize.
Irony? They dress her in Dolce & Gabbana. While they talk about cuts and “prioritizing the people”, their lifestyle screams “let others pay!“. And be careful, it’s not that we are against someone spending whatever they want, but when your salary comes from our taxes and your speech is about equality, then at least you expect coherence. Or, you know, some shame.
The funniest (or tragic, depending on your sense of humor) is that this is not an isolated case. It is the modus operandi of a political class that uses the poverty of others as an electoral springboard but lives in a bubble of luxury. And we, like good living memes, continue sharing their photos with surprised faces. When will we learn?

Because ladies and gentlemen, if you are going to live like kings, at least don’t sell us fairy tales.
