One more blow for Dembélé’s fragile talent
Ousmane Dembélé returns to the infirmary. The Paris Saint-Germain striker has a problem with his left calf and will miss this Saturday’s match against Metz in Ligue 1.
The club confirmed it in its medical bulletin. In the coming days, the Frenchman will do indoor gym work to recover.
The injury occurred during the 3-2 win over Monaco in the first leg of the Champions League playoff. Dembélé had to leave before the break. Now, his presence for Wednesday’s return is a big unknown.
“It is a blow. We are not going to take risks with any player. We are trying to manage this in the best possible way,”
said coach Luis Enrique, without confirming whether he will have him next week.
A season marked by physical mishaps
This is not the first time. Dembélé’s campaign has been a constant fight against his own body.
He was injured at the beginning of September with the French team. In November, he came on again in the first half against Bayern Munich. Its fragility is a recurring theme.
Despite everything, his numbers speak volumes: 11 goals in 25 games this season, after scoring 35 last year (the best number of his career). The talent is there, but the physique does not always respond.
Meanwhile, PSG continues on its path. They are second in Ligue 1, just one point behind the surprising Lens. Every absence of a key piece like Dembélé is noticeable.
For the duel against bottom team Metz, Luis Enrique could give another chance to goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier, who is competing for the position with Matvei Safonov after the departure of Donnarumma.
History repeats itself for Ousmane. A brilliant player who must demonstrate, once again, that he can overcome physical obstacles and once again be decisive when he is needed most.
