The facts
The victory of the Mexican National Team over Ecuador in the World Cup unleashed massive celebrations in the capital. The Ministry of Health, headed by Nadine Gasman, reported the death of four people during the celebrations.
Three of the victims—a 44-year-old man and two women, ages 19 and 48—died from asphyxiation. The fourth person died in a hospital after suffering cardiorespiratory arrest. Authorities have not detailed the exact circumstances of each case.

Gianni Infantino, president of the organization, expressed his condolences on social networks:
“We have been deeply saddened to learn of the tragic death of four people in Mexico City during the celebrations that followed the Mexican National Team match. On behalf of FIFA and the international football community we send our most sincere condolences to their families and friends. May they rest in peace.”
Mobilization figures
According to official data, nearly 1.4 million people took to the streets. Approximately 485 thousand attendees gathered on Paseo de la Reforma, Avenida Juárez and the Monument to the Revolution.
The incident has generated consternation among fans and international media. The capital authorities have not reported on extraordinary measures for the upcoming celebrations.
