David Ospina arrives at Atlante

Atlante confirmed the incorporation of David Ospina, a 37-year-old Colombian goalkeeper, as a significant reinforcement for Apertura 2026. With experience in clubs such as Nice, Arsenal and Napoli, the veteran goalkeeper was enthusiastic about his arrival in Mexico.

“I am happy to be here, I come to give my best. The idea is to get ready as quickly as possible to be at the disposal of the coaching staff. I come to contribute my grain of sand and I am going to give everything for this institution,” he declared upon his arrival at the Mexico City International Airport.

A history of the Colombian team

Ospina is the footballer with the most appearances in Colombian history (131) and has played in three World Cups: Brazil 2014, Russia 2018 and North America 2026. He recognized that playing in Liga MX was a personal aspiration.

“I have Colombian teammates who are here in Mexico and told about the level of the Mexican League. I always had that desire and now that I have this opportunity, I am going to make the most of it,” he said.

Quick negotiations

The goalkeeper revealed that the efforts were agile, even during his World Cup training camp. “I know that Atlante is a team with many young people and a great coaching staff. It is ambitious to have someone like Mr. Miguel Herrera. This possibility arose, conversations arose and it was only about meeting the Escalante family to make this positive decision,” he explained.

With the Iron Colts jersey already in his hands, Ospina committed to at least a year. His arrival represents a coup of authority in the Expansion League market.

A historic welcome

The Spanish team returned to Madrid this Monday and was received by a crowd estimated at almost two million people. The streets of the capital were filled with fans who wanted to celebrate the world title won on Sunday.

The team, made up of 26 players and their coaching staff, landed in Spain one day after beating Argentina 1-0 in the final played in New Jersey.
