The Apertura 2026 table of Liga MX had its first strong movements after the two early games of Matchday 2.

The movements at the top

Cruz Azul is the absolute leader with six points, the only ones in the tournament with a perfect pace. La Maquina beat Puebla 2-1 at the Banorte Stadium and has five goals in favor against three against.

Pachuca, Tijuana, Atlas, Toluca, Monterrey, Necaxa, América, Puebla and Pumas follow with three units —although several have a game pending. Puebla fell to ninth place; Pumas rose to tenth after its first victory.

University comeback

The surprise of the date came at Nemesio Díez. Toluca took the lead in the 14th minute with a goal from Jorge Díaz, assisted by Helinho. But in the second half, the Auriazules reacted: Víctor Arteaga tied it in the 57th with a left-footed shot, and seven minutes later Sebastián Córdova headed in a cross from Rodrigo López to turn the score around.

Keylor Navas was a figure in maintaining the advantage with key saves. Toluca was left with three points and its first setback.

The other advance

Cruz Azul suffered against Puebla. Fernando Monárrez opened the scoring for La Franja; Luka Romero equalized. When everything pointed to a tie, Christian Ebere gave the capital’s victory in the final minutes.

Both duels were brought forward because Cruz Azul and Toluca will compete this weekend for the Champion of Champions.

Lando Norris ended an eight-month wait in Formula 1. The McLaren driver took advantage of solid race pace and problems from his rivals to win the Hungarian Grand Prix on Sunday in Mogyorod.

The defending champion started from pole, but lost the lead to teammate Oscar Piastri in the second corner. Norris regained the lead after Piastri was delayed by a collision with Carlos Sainz Jr. while lapping a Williams. Norris left the pits ahead of Piastri and headed towards victory.

“The car was amazing today, well done guys, amazing. We were flying,” Norris said. “It’s nice to finally be able to do it all for you. It feels like a long time ago.”

Piastri abandoned with a broken gearbox. Max Verstappen finished second and Kimi Antonelli third, his ninth podium in 11 races. Antonelli extended his lead in the standings to 50 points over Lewis Hamilton.

Hamilton, fifth, received another penalty for speeding in the pits. The Ferrari driver wrote on Instagram: “Sometimes you just don’t get anything.” The sanction added to a streak of three weekends with penalties.

The next race will be the Dutch Grand Prix on August 23, after the mid-season break.

F1 returns to Sepang

Formula 1 will return to Malaysia after nine years. The Bahrain Grand Prix, originally scheduled for that country, has been rescheduled for October 4 at the Sepang circuit. This was reported by F1 and the FIA on Sunday, subject to approval by the World Motor Sport Council.

The change responds to adjustments in the calendar. Sepang is located between the Azerbaijan and Singapore races, allowing better logistics for teams and drivers.

The Malaysian track, known for its technical design and unpredictable weather, was a regular venue for the championship between 1999 and 2017. Its return raises expectations among fans in Southeast Asia.

The last edition at Sepang was won by Max Verstappen in 2017. Now, with new generation cars and a renewed grill, the event promises emotions. The FIA’s final decision is expected in the coming weeks.
