Alejandro Moreno Cárdenas, president of the Permanent Conference of Political Parties of Latin America and the Caribbean (COPPPAL), highlighted the work of international electoral observation missions prior to the presidential elections in Colombia.
Coordination between international organizations
Moreno reported that the COPPPAL International Electoral Observation Mission held a meeting in Bogotá with representatives of the Organization of American States (OAS) and the European Union. The objective was to exchange information about the Colombian electoral process.
The leader pointed out that the coordination between these organizations contributes to providing certainty, legitimacy and institutional stability in the region. They evaluate democratic processes under criteria of transparency, objectivity and respect for human rights.
He also recognized the work of the European Union mission headed by Esteban González Pons, vice president of the European Parliament. He stated that the presence of observers makes it possible to issue technical recommendations to strengthen the rule of law.
The meeting highlights the importance of international collaboration to guarantee free and reliable elections in Latin America.
