The CIBanco drama: 1,851 million pesos in dispute
This is not a simple bank closure, it is a legal soap opera. The IPAB revealed that the liquidation of CIBanco faces litigation for 1,851.7 million pesos and 7.2 million dollars. Creditors, companies and individuals are in the arena, fighting to recover their money or stop closure measures.
“The disputes come from creditors, companies and individuals seeking to recover resources or stop measures derived from the closure of the institution.”
But not everything is chaos. The IPAB has already paid 4 thousand 51 million pesos to savers, 89% of clients. That’s pure oxygen in the middle of the fire.
What happened to CIBanco?
The bank requested voluntary liquidation in October, after the US agency FinCEN flagged it for alleged ties to organized crime. A blow that left the entire system shaking.
The biggest lawsuits
Among the demands, one for 800 million pesos stands out, and others ranging from 47 to more than 600 million. In addition, there are labor embargoes and fights with fiduciary resources. Quite a judicial puzzle.
The IPAB assures that, for now, these trials do not affect its operations. Meanwhile, CIBanco’s structure is reduced: fewer branches, fewer staff. The play continues, although the curtain has already fallen.
