Explosion in the ninth! The Marlins complete the sweep with a movie ending
Owen Caissie wrote the perfect script this Sunday. With two outs and a teammate on base, he hit a monumental home run in the ninth inning to give the Marlins a 4-3 victory over the Rockies. It wasn’t just a win, it was the finishing touch to a complete sweep in their inaugural series.
It all started with the coldness of the Venezuelan Javier Sanoja. With the game hanging in the balance, he hit a crucial double off reliever Victor Vodnik. That set the stage for the magical moment.
Caissie called a Vodnik changeup and sent it over the right field fence.
That home run not only won the game. It was the final exclamation of a series where Caissie was absolutely on fire, hitting two more doubles and hitting .500 (10-5) in the three games.
Behind the hero there was a solid team. Sanoja, Otto López and Xavier Edwards contributed with two hits each. On the mound, Michael Petersen closed with authority, pitching a perfect ninth inning to take the win.
On the Colorado side, starter José Quintana had a short outing, being retired in the fifth inning after allowing two runs. Although Willi Castro and Ezequiel Tovar had hits for the Rockies, it was not enough against the late Marlins offense.
This victory speaks of more than a good start. It talks about character, about fighting until the last out. Those are the foundations that build memorable seasons. The Fish sent a clear message to the league: they are coming to compete.
