Bud Cauley wins his first PGA Tour title

American golfer Bud Cauley achieved his first victory on the PGA Tour by winning the RBC Canadian Open. With a final-round 65, Cauley finished with a 263 (-17) at the TPC Toronto.

Cauley started Sunday one stroke behind leader Jackson Suber. His streak of birdies began on the 11th hole, a 206-yard par 3, where he left the ball within four feet. On the 12th hole, he holed out from 93 feet. He then chained putts of 13 and a half feet on 13 and 15 on 15, both par 4s. A bogey on 17 did not prevent him from making par on 18 to secure the title.

Cauley’s career nearly came to an end in 2014, when a car accident at the Memorial Tournament left him with six broken ribs, a collapsed right lung and a broken left leg. He returned to the PGA Tour more than two years later. Now in his 239th tournament on the circuit, he celebrated his first championship.

Matt Fitzpatrick, with an eagle on the 18th, shot a 64 and finished second, in addition to taking the lead in the FedEx Cup. Viktor Hovland was third with 14 under par after a 65. Suber, Svensson, Stanger and Garnett tied for fourth place at 16 under par.
