The epic comeback that no one saw coming
“You can call me idol”… and BTS is going to prove it. After almost four years of hiatus, the group announced a historic and completely free concert in the heart of Seoul. The event is on March 21 at Gwanghwamun Square and the adjacent Gyeongbokgung Palace.
It is the first time that a Korean group does a one-time show in this emblematic place. And if that were not enough, Netflix will broadcast it live worldwide. Did someone say ‘event of the year’?
A spectacle fit for kings (literally)
The thing is serious. According to local media, the show will mix traditional Korean culture with high-level production. The septet plans to make an epic entrance through the three main southern gates of the palace.
“The septet is expected to appear from inside Geunjeongmun Palace and cross towards Heungnyemun Gate before leaving through the main gate of Gwanghwamun,” the reports detailed.
They will even use the “Woldae”, the ceremonial stage in front of the main gate where the kings of the Joseon Dynasty gave their speeches. Live or pre-recorded entry? That’s still a mystery.
The production will include at least 50 dancers and 13 musicians from a traditional troupe to reinforce their new song “ARIRANG.” And as icing on the cake, Hamish Hamilton – the genius behind the Super Bowl halftime shows – will be in charge of directing.
For ARMYs who cannot travel, there is more: the documentary “BTS: The Return” arrives on Netflix on March 27. And on March 20, there will be special screenings at Sungnyemun to celebrate the album’s release.
Although there are no official figures, there is talk of capacity for about 15 thousand people. Tickets will likely be handled through Weverse or other fan platforms. Prepare for digital battle, ARMY.
Afterwards will come an international tour and more activities. It seems that BTS is not only returning, but doing so by rewriting the rules of the game. And here we are, with headphones on, waiting for that first chord.
