Brazil dominates and sentences Haiti in Philadelphia
The Seleção celebrated a key 3-0 victory against Haiti this Friday, at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. With two goals from Matheus Cunha and one from Vinícius Júnior, Brazil added its first three points in the World Cup and took the lead in Group C.
Carlo Ancelotti, the first foreign coach to lead Brazil in a World Cup, adjusted his eleven after the 1-1 draw against Morocco. Cunha replaced Igor Thiago in attack and Danilo came on for Ibañez. The changes paid off.
The first goal came after 23 minutes. Cunha recovered the ball in midfield, combined with Bruno Guimarães and set up Vinícius on the left. The Real Madrid forward shot, goalkeeper Johny Placide deflected, but the rebound was at the mercy of Cunha, who pushed at will.
At 36, Cunha himself received from Vinícius and hit a powerful left foot into the corner. Already in stoppage time in the first half, Vinícius took advantage of a filtered pass to define one-on-one against Placide and seal the 3-0.
Brazil accumulates four points and leads Group C, followed by Morocco with the same amount, after beating Scotland 1-0 in Boston. The Scots have three points. Haiti, which is playing in its second World Cup (first since 1974), added two defeats and was eliminated from the tournament.
