Brad Pitt talks about his fight against alcoholism
For the first time since his divorce from Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt has decided to open up publicly about his battle with alcoholism and how Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) was instrumental in his recovery. The Oscar-winning actor shared his testimony on the Armchair Expert podcast, hosted by Dax Shepard, who has also faced addiction problems.
A space of support and honesty
During the interview, Pitt described his AA experience as “a really special experience,” highlighting the sincerity and humor with which group members shared their stories. “They were incredible men talking about their weaknesses, setbacks and pains”, said the protagonist of F1, The Movie.
Shepard, known for his transparency about his own struggles, asked Pitt if he felt nervous joining the group. The actor responded that, at that moment, he was in a state of acceptance and tranquility. “I was practically on my knees, ready to try anything that would help me,” he confessed.
A personal reboot process
Pitt acknowledged that he went through a difficult period after his separation and that AA allowed him to restart his life. “I needed to wake up in some ways. It was a crucial moment for me,”he explained. In addition, he highlighted his commitment to responsibility: “When I get into problems, I assume the consequences. I looked for solutions to avoid repeating mistakes.”.
Over time, the meetings became something she looked forward to as they gave her tools to manage her grief and rebuild her life. “You don’t enter AA because everything is going well. It’s a starting point for change,” he reflected with humor.
Reflections on therapy and growth
The actor also spoke about his therapeutic process, admitting that at first he focused on justifications, but then he understood the importance of introspection. “I was desperate, I talked a lot, but AA taught me to listen,” he said.
His testimony highlights the importance of seeking professional help and the value of support groups in overcoming addictions. Pitt emphasized that, although the road was not easy, discipline and the support of others were key to his recovery.
