The Hollywood drama comes to an end
Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni have decided to bury the hatchet. Literally. The acting couple, who starred in one of the juiciest legal battles of the year, reached an agreement on Monday. All of this happened just before the trial for Lively’s allegations began. She claimed that Baldoni had orchestrated a campaign to destroy her reputation after she accused him of sexual harassment on the set of It Ends With Us.
“Raising awareness and making a meaningful impact in the lives of survivors of domestic violence… is a goal we support. Our sincere hope is that this closes this chapter and allows everyone involved to move forward constructively and peacefully,” they said in a joint statement.
He always denied it
Baldoni, who directed the film and starred alongside Lively, always said it was all made up. According to him, Lively wanted to take creative control of the project and used those accusations as an excuse. The agreement allows them to avoid a trial that would expose the ugliest aspects of the industry. And believe me, no one wanted to see that.
The judge had already made some accusations
Judge Lewis J. Liman dismissed Lively’s sexual harassment claims in April. The reason? She was an independent contractor, not an employee, so federal law did not apply. He also dropped Baldoni’s lawsuit against Lively and Ryan Reynolds for defamation and extortion. A very complex mess.
The movie that started it all
It Ends With Us, based on Colleen Hoover’s bestseller, was released in August 2024 and was a box office success. But behind the scenes, Lively said Baldoni made uncomfortable comments about her body, violated her personal space during romantic scenes and wanted to insert nudity into a childbirth scene. Baldoni responded that it was all part of the creative process.
The judge acknowledged that artists need room to experiment without fear of being accused of harassment. But the case was going to focus on whether Baldoni and his team hired a “digital army” to launch false content against Lively on networks. His lawyers said it was revenge for his complaints.
And who manipulated whom?
Baldoni’s lawyers counterattacked by saying that it was Lively who was manipulating his public image, using his famous friends to harm him. A true Hollywood soap opera that, luckily for everyone, has already ended.
