The return of Marcelo Bielsa to Guadalajara
In the nineties, a young Marcelo Bielsa left Argentina and found in Mexico a country that, like his homeland, lives soccer with intensity.
At 37 years old, he became involved in youth football. He left his mark in Mexico City with América and in Guadalajara with Atlas. In this last club he consolidated his own style and opted for young talents, laying foundations that are still remembered.
Now, as coach of the Uruguay National Team and back in Guadalajara to face Spain in the World Cup, the experienced strategist expressed how special it is to return.
“My memories of the city of Guadalajara are linked to that stage of the Atlas and I always remember that time with nostalgia, affection, gratitude. I feel very happy to be in Mexico,” he mentioned at a press conference.
Bielsa, whose team is risking its life against Spain, downplayed the Mexican fans’ support for the Europeans.
“The home field is interpreted depending on where the spectators turn, it’s not that I don’t value it, but we would not be in a position to play this match of this importance if this aspect were decisive,” he concluded.
