End of cycle for Beccacece in Ecuador
Sebastián Beccacece, Argentine coach of the Ecuadorian team, announced his departure from the South American team. The decision came after the 2-0 defeat against Mexico, which meant the elimination of Ecuador in the round of 32 of the 2026 World Cup.
At the end of the match, the strategist confirmed that his relationship with the federation had ended. “We could not fulfill the feat we promised, which was to have our best World Cup,” he noted. “Because of the responsibility that I entail, my contract ended once the World Cup ended, and the World Cup ended for Ecuador.”
Beccacece assumed full responsibility for the adverse result in the Mexican capital. However, he highlighted that during his management the records of previous participations of the tricolor team in the World Cup were improved.
Ecuadorian fans had placed hopes in the team after making a good impression in the tournament, including a historic victory against Germany in previous matches. The elimination is a painful blow for fans.
The now former coach closed his contractual cycle with the South American squad. The Ecuadorian federation will have to look for a new helmsman for the future.
