The curtain opens on BCS: 1,400 actors on the security stage
The largest holiday theater in the northwest is about to begin. And the government of Baja California Sur already has all the distribution in place. More than 1,400 security, relief and armed forces elements are ready to monitor every corner of the state during this Holy Week.
The work starts this weekend and concludes on April 13. It is no small thing: we are talking about 186 units deployed on beaches, roads and recreational centers. All to meet the avalanche of visitors who come to enjoy the largest coastline in Mexico.
A script that depends on the audience
Here comes the dramatic twist. Governor Víctor Castro Cosío took the podium with a clear message: security is not only the state’s task.
“Security also depends on the behavior of the population”
His exhortation was direct: respect traffic rules, avoid incidents. And he issued the warning we all need to hear, especially during the holiday season.
“Do not drive under the influence of alcohol and behave responsibly”
It’s basic, but how many tragedies begin by ignoring this. Castro knows that Los Cabos, La Paz and Loreto will be the tourist protagonists. But he also knows the local customs.
Many residents take the opportunity to camp on any of those 2 thousand kilometers of spectacular coastline. That is why the operation includes reinforcing roads and guaranteeing safe access to beaches.
In the end, as my father taught me, politics is about this: concrete actions that affect daily life. Having 1,400 people watch over our vacation isn’t cheap theater—it’s the difference between a happy memory and an avoidable tragedy.
The stage is set. The lights turn on. Now it’s up to us, the audience, to follow the script responsibly.
