Farewell to a grunge legend

L7 bassist and founder Jennifer Finch has died at age 59. The news was confirmed by the band on July 18, days after revealing that they were suffering from aggressive brain cancer.

Finch underwent several surgeries after the tumor was detected. However, the disease progressed quickly and ended his life. The loss prevented him from participating in L7’s farewell tour.

The news generated a wave of farewell messages from artists, colleagues and followers. Everyone remembered its enormous influence on the grunge movement and alternative rock of the 80s and 90s.

Beyond music, Finch stood out as a photographer, writer and visual artist. His legacy transcends the stage.

Two artistic dynasties met on the stage of the Shakespeare Forum. Marimar Vega and Bruno Bichir presented “Réquiem”, a work that is already generating conversation.

Bichir highlighted his partner’s innate talent. “It is a delight to work with Marimar. She comes from an extraordinary family, since she was little she was in theaters and it shows; no one gives her that, she didn’t study it, she carries it in her skin,” she said during the premiere.

A story of morality and justice

The plot follows prosecutor Emma Solís (Vega) and Father Banks (Bichir) in a Texas penitentiary. Banks must confess to an eleven-year-old minor who will be executed that night. Solís took the minor to death row for a serious crime.

For just over an hour, the characters debate morality, justice, faith and forgiveness. Bichir pointed out that the death penalty interests everyone. In Mexico, he said, it has been discussed as a measure against crime.

“Both points of view are convincing. It is a debate between love and punishment, to teach a lesson and feel calm as a society, because prisons are universities of crime,” he explained.

Theme validity

Marimar Vega considered that the plot is more current than ever. “If we see the news in our country, about children, justice and punishments, it is a timely conversation. We are doing something wrong as a society. Justice must be debated,” he expressed.

The public responded with enthusiasm. In the end, the actors returned to the stage three times for prolonged applause.

A gesture of tricolor pride

Lupita Nyong’o was born in Mexico and, although she consolidated her career in Hollywood, she has never hidden her affection for the country where she was born. During the final of the 2026 World Cup, the actress made it clear: she arrived at the stadium wearing the Mexican national team shirt, even though the team had been eliminated in the round of 16.

The Black Panther performer attended the decisive match between Spain and Argentina accompanied by speaker Simon Sinek, with whom she maintains a close friendship. In images shared on social networks, they are seen entering the New York New Jersey Stadium with bracelets that had the word “FINAL” printed on them. Nyong’o was also caught eating an apple before entering.

It was not the only show of support. Days before, when Mexico faced England, the actress published a video with Tom Holland, her partner in the film The Odyssey. In the clip, both waved the shirts of their respective teams: the Mexican and the English, as a symbol of encouragement.

Nyong’o, of Kenyan parents and a naturalized American, has forged a career in cinema, but her link with Mexico is undeniable. His presence in the final with the tricolor shirt, even after the team’s elimination, reaffirms that roots.

The actress shared part of her experience inside and outside the stadium, showing that pride in her origins does not depend on the results on the field.
