An incident that sets off alarms
In Guasave, Sinaloa, the authorities are thoroughly investigating the origin of a mass poisoning that affected 40 children from the “Mi Casita” daycare. This unfortunate event forced seven of the minors to be rushed to a hospital to receive specialized medical care, a fact that has shocked the community and put the focus on security protocols.
Macario Castro Gaxiola, director of Municipal Civil Protection, indicated that one of the lines of investigation points towards possible negligence in the management and conservation of food. For this reason, the State Commission for the Protection of Health Risks has taken control of the inspection of the property to determine the exact causes and prevent it from happening again.
The voice of families and the state of children
The parents of the affected children have expressed their concern, pointing out that, according to the information available, the children were served poor food. The consumption of these foods caused the minors to present symptoms such as dizziness, vomiting and general malaise, which precipitated the call to the emergency and relief bodies.
Currently, seven of the children, whose ages have not been specified, continue under observation at the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS). Fortunately, his health condition is reported as stable. The rest of the infants have already recovered from the initial discomfort, which is a relief in this critical situation.
Institutional response and preventive measures
Director Castro Gaxiola highlighted the paradox that this incident occurred despite the periodic visits made to the municipality’s daycares to evaluate the conditions of the facilities and the food handling procedures. It has been confirmed that the “Mi Casita” daycare center is a surrogate center of the IMSS, which is why the authorities of this institute immediately got involved to coordinate pediatric care and the corresponding research.
The main objective of the health and civil protection authorities is to clarify all the details of the case to clearly establish responsibilities. The ultimate goal is to implement more robust corrective measures and reinforce supervision, thus guaranteeing food security and the comprehensive well-being of all children in child care centers, so that events of this nature do not occur again.
