Operation “Destroy-your-own-kitchen” in Durango
Because nothing says “National Security Strategy” like a good raid with style, Mexican authorities decided to play detective in Tamazula, Durango. And boy did they find something more exciting than pirate treasure: 150 kilos of methamphetamine and two clandestine laboratories that, surely, did not appear on TripAdvisor.
The star cast of this anti-drug reality show included the Secretary of the Navy, the FGR, the National Defense, the National Guard and the SSPC. Come on, almost all the government’s acronyms except the SEP (although who knows, maybe some drug trafficker had a pending task).
The jackpot: dangerous chemistry and a bill of 50 million
In the town El Tastito (a name that sounds like a snack but turned out to be a menu of synthetic drugs), the officers not only found the laboratories, but also 11,850 liters of chemicals and 360 kilos of various material. In other words, enough to set up a science fair… or a very bad idea.
The economic blow to drug traffickers is estimated at 50 million 250 thousand pesos, which is equivalent to a few luxury bags for some boss, or perhaps the annual budget of a small municipality. Ironies of life.
Everything was duly recorded in the investigation folders, because if the judicial system likes something, it is paperwork. Now, the million dollar question: how long will it be before another clandestine laboratory appears like a mushroom after the rain?
These actions are part of surveillance operations that, according to authorities, seek to “maintain the rule of law.” Which, in colloquial terms, means that the drug traffickers will have to work overtime to recover what they lost. Long live productivity!
Are you surprised that laboratories continue to appear? Share this note and spread the news. Or better yet, explore more content about the eternal battle between authorities and organized crime. Spoiler: no one wins, but everyone loses.
