Strategic reorganization at Atlas FC
Club Atlas has announced a comprehensive reconfiguration of its sports structure, marking the end of Germán Brunati’s era as Sports President. The Argentine, who took office in April 2023, will be replaced by Aníbal Fájer Alonso, former executive director of the team and with 13 years of experience within Orlegi Sports, the group that owns the institution.
Details of the management changes
The decision was ratified after an exhaustive analysis by the Management Committee of Orlegi Sports, which highlighted in a statement: “These appointments strengthen our management team to face challenges with determination”. In addition to Fájer Alonso, Eduardo Herrera joined as Director of Sports Management and Álvaro García Rulfo headed the Business area, consolidating a multifocal management model.
Brunati leaves office after an irregular season: under his mandate, Atlas qualified for the Play-In with Beñat San José, but in the 2024 Clausura Tournament they finished in 14th position (18 points) with Gonzalo Pineda as coach. The club publicly thanked him for his “dedication and commitment”, although his sporting performance accelerated the transition.
Objectives and projection under new management
Fájer Alonso takes office in a critical context, with the challenge of optimizing the performance of the first team and the basic forces. Its hybrid profile—it combines management experience and tactical knowledge—responds to the “Win by Serving” philosophy, the guiding axis of the project. The board stressed that this restructuring seeks to “transform all areas of the club”, prioritizing synergies between sports and commercial matters.
Experts consulted highlight that the movement reflects a trend in Mexican soccer: integrating executives with a long-term vision, beyond immediate results. Fájer must balance the expectations of the red and black fans with a sustainable development plan, promoting the Orlegi Sports model in Santos Laguna and Atlas.
The club emphasized that these adjustments are part of a comprehensive strategy to reposition itself in Liga MX, with a view to the next tournament. The arrival of Herrera —an expert in scouting— and García Rulfo —specialized in sports marketing—reinforces this roadmap.
Immediate perspectives
Fans hope the changes will revitalize the team, historically volatile in performance. The transfer market and the possible arrival of a new coach will be key to evaluating the real impact of this restructuring.
