Movement in Morena! Ariadna Montiel takes control
Sunday was a day of changes in the cherry game. Ariadna Montiel, the former Secretary of Welfare, was named national president of Morena during the VIII Extraordinary National Congress. The duration? Just an hour. More than 1,800 congressmen gave their approval in a process that, according to the leadership, went as planned.
His first message: firmness and principles
Montiel did not mince words. In his first speech, he issued a clear warning: his leadership will not tolerate acts of corruption nor will it promote candidacies of profiles with questionable backgrounds, even if those names come out favored in internal polls. He called on the militancy to act responsibly and to strengthen the principles of the movement, underlining the need to maintain ethics in the governments emanating from Morena.
“We will not tolerate acts of corruption nor will we promote candidacies of profiles with questionable backgrounds, even when they are favored in internal polls.”
In addition, he called for party unity and to unreservedly support President Claudia Sheinbaum, in a complex international context. Montiel also criticized what he considered attacks by the opposition and external accusations that, he said, seek to justify foreign interventionism, in reference to recent accusations against Mexican officials.
The departure of Luisa María Alcalde
The congress also marked the farewell of Luisa María Alcalde from the presidency of the party. He left to applause and announced his incorporation to the Legal Department of the Presidency. Governors, legislators and key figures of the movement were present during the event, while the continuity of other leaderships within the National Executive Committee was ratified.
What’s next for Morena towards 2027?
With these changes, Morena begins a new stage ahead of the 2027 elections, where various positions at the federal and local level will be renewed. Montiel, along with other profiles such as Citlalli Hernández, will have the task of consolidating the party structure and defining candidacies, amid internal challenges and an increasingly competitive political scenario. The move is served.
