Ángela Aguilar and the art of not entering the “toxic game” of the industry
Because, of course, in the wonderful world of regional Mexican music, what really matters is not talent, but how many zumbaditas you can throw at another woman in a song. Fortunately, Ángela Aguilar—that jewel of the Aguilar dynasty who seems to have inherited good taste along with artistic genes—has decided not to stoop to that level. What kind of monster would she be if she used her voice for more than just singing? Imagine: an artist using her art for… art. What a revolutionary concept!
“I am not part of that circus”: Aguilar and his battle against the yellow headlines
The singer of “The wrong one” (a song that, ironically, many have used to speculate about her relationship with Christian Nodal) made it clear in an interview with ADN 40 that she does not plan to join the club of “those who throw flowers… but with thorns.” While some artists turn their lyrics into battlefields, she prefers to maintain elegance. “My music is my language, not my weapon,” he declared, as if he were revealing humanity’s best-kept secret (which, by the way, no one seems to want to hear).
And here comes the funniest thing: why aren’t men made to fight in the media? Oh, yes, because they are “colleagues”, “friends”, “healthy rivals”. But when it comes to women, bam! It’s like the world needs to see them in a cockfight with flower arrangements. Aguilar, with the wisdom of someone who has grown up among legends, just laughs at it. “I would never do it and I will never do it,” he declared, probably while adjusting his invisible crown of “Sensible Person in a World of Dramas.”
Married life: planes, stages and eternal scrutiny
Meanwhile, Ángela’s marital life with Nodal seems like something out of a reality show that no one asked for but everyone watches. Between tours, hotels and the occasional music video where they appear to be adorably cheesy, the singer has learned to ignore the comments that compare her to her husband’s exes (because, obviously, his past is her responsibility, right?). Of course, he continues to share moments of his life as if it were an intimate diary with soundtracks, because what would fame be without a little overexposure?
At the end of the day, Aguilar prefers to sing, travel and laugh at the absurdities of the industry. And we, in the meantime, will continue to ask ourselves: do we really need female artists fighting to entertain us? Or better yet: why don’t we focus on the music instead of the gossip? (Aha, as if that would happen.)
