Operation recovers pedestrian space in high traffic area
The Cuauhtémoc Mayor’s Office carried out a recovery operation on Jesús García Street, located in the Buenavista neighborhood, achieving the total elimination of irregular commerce that obstructed sidewalks and affected mobility. The area, close to the Buenavista Metro, registers an intense flow of pedestrians and vehicles, which made intervention critical to guarantee accessibility and safety.
Coordinated actions for urban planning
According to the official statement, the procedure was carried out in an orderly and incident-free manner, with the participation of personnel from the Directorate of Markets and Public Roads. Subsequently, local merchants and officials collaborated on a cleanup day to restore the liberated areas, thus improving the urban image and promoting the proper use of space.
In parallel, in the Santa María la Ribera neighborhood, five irregular structures were removed, including metal stands and trailers that did not comply with dimension regulations. These actions are part of a comprehensive strategy that, in the last week alone, has allowed us to free 2,660 square meters of public roads and remove 2.4 tons of obstacles.
The authorities highlighted that these efforts seek to balance the use of space, prioritizing the right to circulation and citizen coexistence. In addition, the importance of maintaining dialogues with merchants to find sustainable solutions that avoid recurrence was emphasized.
Impact and next steps: The intervention not only optimizes mobility, but also reduces the risk of accidents and improves hygienic conditions. The mayor’s office announced that it will continue with similar operations in other conflict areas, strengthening supervision and compliance with regulations.
