The day luck played dice (and lost)
Ah, the charm of family trips. Nothing like a quiet walk along the roads of Hidalgo to end in an impromptu dip in the Requena canal. Because what better plan than to turn your car into a submarine without warning? The vehicle, in an act of rebellion against the laws of physics, decided to take a dramatic turn (literally) and ended up in the waters of the canal, as if it were the protagonist of a poorly directed action movie.
The survivor: an accidental heroine
The teenager, whose name we do not know because, of course, why give personal details when you can reduce it to “the minor”? She recounted how she spent three hours hugging a tree, trying to save her eight-year-old brother. Spoiler: the current won. Meanwhile, his grandparents (yes, those human beings who do not even deserve to be named in the note) passed away, because destiny is a scriptwriter with very bad taste.
The farmers in the area, who were probably expecting a quiet day harvesting, were met with cries for help and, in a burst of rural heroism, they rescued the young woman. Then the emergency teams arrived, who, with all the efficiency of a bureaucratic procedure, managed to remove the bodies of the adults. The boy, for his part, remains missing, because what would a tragedy be without an unsolved mystery?
Search operation: efficiency or theater?
The authorities, in an effort to show that they do something, launched a search operation. Of course, they haven’t found the minor, but hey, at least they activated protocols. Those documents that everyone reads with devotion before acting, right? Meanwhile, the canal and the nearby land are searched with the meticulousness of someone looking for a needle in a haystack… underwater.
And so, between screams, currents and bureaucracy, this story joins the archive of “things that should not happen but do happen.” Because, in the end, life has a black humor that not even the best comedians would dare to imitate.
