A classic from the 80s is gone
Donald Gibb, that actor who made us laugh like the bully Ogre in Revenge of the Nerds, said goodbye this Tuesday. He was 71 years old and, according to TMZ, he left peacefully at his home in Texas, surrounded by his people.
His son Travis confirmed that his father struggled with several chronic health issues. I mean, it wasn’t a splash of cold water, but it still hits. The family asked for privacy at this very difficult time, and well, it is respected.
From the Chargers to the big screen
Gibb wasn’t always an actor. He grew up in California and before shining in the movies, he was popular as a football player for the San Diego Chargers. His screen debut was with supporting roles in Conan the Barbarian and The Squad of Stooges, but it was the role of Ogre in that 1984 comedy that put him on the map. The film became cult, and its character, an icon.
The affection of the people
The networks are already burning with messages from fans and colleagues. Gibb’s ’80s nostalgia and unfiltered humor hit hard. His legacy is one of those that makes you smile even if the context is sad.
“My dad always appreciated the public’s affection. Thank you for so many years of laughter,” said Travis.
We are left with the memory of a guy who, without being the protagonist, stole the show. Rest in peace, Ogre.
