The earth moved (and not from emotion)
Because nothing says “relaxed Sunday” like a 4.5-degree earthquake that decides to appear uninvited in Nuevo León. The National Seismological System, always punctual with details, reported that the epicenter was 7 kilometers from Montemorelos, because of course, what better place to start the chaos than a municipality with a soap opera name?
Who felt it? All. Literally everyone.
Civil Protection, in a heroic effort not to alarm the population (too much), confirmed that the tremor was felt throughout the entire Monterrey Metropolitan Area, its surroundings and even in those towns where the internet arrives whenever it wants. The list of affected municipalities is so long that it looks like a taqueria menu: Monterrey, Apodaca, Juárez, Galeana, Zuazua… and so on until you run out of air. Damage? None, but that did not stop the authorities from going out on patrol “just in case”, because nothing combats panic better than an official vehicle traveling at 10 km/h.
The reply: because one was not enough
As if the first scare was not enough, the residents of Montemorelos reported an aftershock at 9:34 p.m. Ismael Sinfuentes, a resident and now an expert in seismology from his own experience, described the event as “a little milder than the first, but with the same dramatic thunder”. The children, always the most sincere, ran to hug each other as if it were the apocalypse, while the adults pretended to be calm (spoiler: no one believed it).
Conclusion? The earth remains unpredictable, authorities follow protocols written on toilet paper, and citizens continue to wonder if we should invest in an anti-earthquake mattress. For now, Nuevo León is still standing, but with sharp black humor.
