It was not Amazon delivery: the mega shipment of glass that did not reach its destination
It seems that the logistics of organized crime in Sinaloa are looking for a five-star rating in express shipments, but this time, their delivery man had a little problem at customs in real life. Elements of the Ministry of the Navy, in what was surely the most interesting shift of the week, seized nothing more and nothing less than 1.5 tons of methamphetamine at the Ferry Terminal of the Port of Mazatlán. Yes, you read that right: tons. They weren’t a few grams for the weekend party; This was the complete stock for half the country.
The modus operandi was as classic as an episode of ‘Narcos’ but with a touch of homemade DIY. The cargo traveled comfortably installed in a double bottom made in the cargo box of a tractor-trailer. Basically, the bad guys broke through rectangular-shaped metal bars and there, like the most meticulous container organizers at IKEA, they arranged 494 packages and six bags of the substance of chaos.
The economic blow that hurts more than a bad trip
According to the official statement from the Security Cabinet, which must have been written with a mixture of professionalism and pure satisfaction, the seized drugs represent an economic impact on organized crime of 426.5 million pesos. To put it in terms our generation understands: that’s like canceling the profit from a billion fraudulent streams or eliminating a cryptocurrency wallet full of Shiba Inu coins. A bad day at the office for the bosses.
But the real impact, the one that really matters, is that this operation prevented the sale and consumption of approximately 1.5 million doses of that shit that destroys communities. They are not abstract numbers; They are slightly safer streets, families potentially not destroyed, and a lot of addicts who will not fall into the trap… at least this time.
And how the hell did they find it? It wasn’t magic. Members of the Naval Port Protection Unit of Mazatlán did their thing: they used X-ray equipment (like at the airport, but for heavier things) and had the support of three canine pairs. Yes, dogs are the heroes without capes that we always need. While we watch kitten videos, these good boys are smelling danger and saving lives.
In the end, the vehicle and all that mountain of problems in the form of dust were made available to the agent of the Federal Public Ministry, who now has the legal puzzle of putting together the investigation folder of the case. A paperwork that, we hope, ends with someone behind bars for a long time.
These actions, beyond the spectacular numbers, endorse the commitment (sometimes questioned, but today celebrated) of the institutions to work in a coordinated manner to prevent these illicit substances from reaching the streets. It’s a constant battle, a game of cat and mouse with life-or-death consequences, and today, at least, we won one round.
It’s a reminder that, although sometimes it feels like it, we don’t live in a lawless Western. There are people doing their jobs, often underpaid and away from the spotlight, so that our feed is not full of more avoidable tragedies. So yeah, today it’s time to give the Navy a slow clap that becomes a standing ovation.
