The director of the Municipal Commission of Water and Sanitation of Xalapa (CMAS), Eric Omar Rodolfo Juárez Valladares, recognized that the deep wells located in the El Castillo area are not generating the volume of water originally estimated, so, so far, they do not contribute significantly to the supply of the municipality or to the reduction of the quantity.
In an interview, he explained that the CMAS is in the delivery-reception process of these works; However, one of the wells still does not present the expected technical results, while the other two, which began operating last year, have a capacity considerably lower than projected.
According to the initial studies, he explained, the wells identified as 1 and 3 were designed to operate with a capacity close to 80 percent, but in practice they barely reach around 40 percent of the planned volume.
“The capacity has not been what was estimated and we have to review the way in which the supply is carried out technically correctly, so as not to exceed the permitted limits,” said the municipal official.
Juárez Valladares specified that the water extracted from these wells is not yet fully incorporated into the distribution network, since complementary work and the correction of some technical details detected during the work review process are missing.
He added that it will be necessary to analyze new investments throughout the current administration to ensure that the wells operate optimally and can be effectively integrated into the city’s supply system.
Finally, he stressed that the CMAS will continue to evaluate the operation of these supply sources, with the aim of guaranteeing a sustainable operation that does not represent risks for the long-term water supply in Xalapa.
