Uruguay says goodbye to the World Cup with criticism of Bielsa and Muslera

Coach Kyle Shanahan took to the 49ers’ practice field Sunday, just two weeks after a car accident that left him with a concussion and other injuries. He remained with general manager John Lynch for about 30 minutes, observing his players.

“I know he can’t stay away,” linebacker Fred Warner said. “That guy is obsessed with football.”

Shanahan, wearing a cast on his left hand and sunglasses to cover his black eye, interacted with Warner, Kyle Juszczyk, Christian McCaffrey and Dre Greenlaw before leaving. His new mustache led Warner to joke about his “disguise.”

Temporary command for Foerster

Assistant coach Chris Foerster took over the reins of the team while Shanahan recovers. Foerster, with more than three decades in the NFL, runs the camp with support from coordinators Klay Kubiak, Raheem Morris and Brant Boyer.

“It’s like a perfect fit,” tackle Trent Williams said. “Seeing him in that position fills me with pride.”

Foerster worked with the Shanahans in Washington and joined the 49ers in 2019. His record includes a resignation in Miami in 2017 after a controversial video, but he received a new opportunity.

Bosa advances in his return

Defensive end Nick Bosa participated in individual drills following a torn ACL suffered in Week 3 of last season. He worked separately during team practices.

“Bosa looks better than he did before he got injured,” Williams said, highlighting the player’s apparent full recovery.

With a veteran roster and several experienced coaches, the team operates on “autopilot” despite Shanahan’s absence. The first practice of camp went without a hitch.

The road to the title

América Femenil beat Tigres in the penalty shootout to win the Champion of Champions of the Liga MX Femenil. The match, played at Toyota Field in San Antonio, ended 1-1 in regulation time. Goalkeeper Itzel Velasco was decisive by stopping two shots in the definition, which ended 4-3 in favor of the Águilas.

Ángel Villacampa’s team dominated from the beginning. Irene Guerrero opened the scoring in the 11th minute, assisted by Geyse da Silva. América maintained control and had opportunities to extend the lead, although Tigres’ lack of precision and defense prevented this.

When the title seemed assured, Diana Ordóñez equalized in the 89th minute, sending the match to penalties. In the shootout, Velasco stopped two of the Amazonas’ charges, while the América players converted their shots, securing the championship.

This is the first Champion of Champions that América Femenil obtains, marking the beginning of the new season of Mexican women’s soccer.

The video arbitration system was once again the center of the debate. In the match between Necaxa and Monterrey, the VAR had a determining role in the final score: 2-1 in favor of the locals.

Referee Iván Antonio López faced a complex afternoon. During the first and second half, the VAR assistants intervened in several plays. Each review changed the course of the game.
