Pumping and drilling: this is how the rescue progresses at the Santa Fe mine
The Unified Command Post reported that more than 350 elements are working on the stabilization of the Santa Fe mine in Sinaloa. Its objective is clear: guarantee security to rescue three workers trapped since March 25.
Over the weekend, a 25 HP pump was installed in the so-called ‘ground zero’. It began operating around midnight on Saturday. Since then, it has managed to lower the water level by two meters, discharging some 12,600 liters.
On the technical front, the drilling of the hole has already taken 79 linear meters. Meanwhile, experts are analyzing how to remove material from counterwell 81 without interfering with crucial pumping operations.
A massive operation and a distressing wait
The task force has 353 elements that accumulate more than 255 uninterrupted hours of work. Supervision is an almost military coordination exercise.
The Secretariat of National Defense, the Secretariat of the Navy, Civil Protection, the CFE, state authorities, specialized USAR brigades and personnel from the operating company, Industrial Minera Sinaloa, participate.
The authorities hold periodic meetings with families to keep them informed. The official promise is repeated: the jobs will continue “permanently” until they are found.
But the clocks keep ticking. And every hour that passes underground is an eternity.
