An early end to Sterling’s London adventure
Raheem Sterling and Chelsea have decided to make a clean break. By mutual agreement, they end their contractual relationship almost three years in advance. A separation that comes after an initial investment that exceeded $56 million.
The English winger arrived in 2022 from Manchester City loaded with titles and experience. He was expected to be a leader on and off the field. However, the reality was different.
His last game with the blue shirt dates back to May 2024.
The coaching staff’s confidence faded until they were completely sidelined. An undeniable talent who, for reasons known only to the locker rooms, did not fit into the project.
From the outside, it is easy to point out the signing as a mistake. But I, who know what it is like to have to reinvent yourself after an injury, look beyond the final result. Sterling took the step looking for a new challenge, he took the risk. Sometimes the pieces just don’t fit together the way we expected.
His departure frees up important space in the squad and in the salary bill. For the club, it is an opportunity to remake that right wing. For the player, a break to look for minutes and feel important again in a team.
The Premier League does not forgive. It requires constant adaptation and immediate performance. Sterling knows this better than anyone. Now it’s time to close this chapter with professionalism and open the next one with that hunger that took you to the top.
Football gives you revenge. This was not his at Stamford Bridge, but it surely will not be the last.
