“There are those who cannot bear to speak well of the President”
President Claudia Sheinbaum came out this Monday. His objective: to defend actress Salma Hayek, who was at the National Palace on Sunday for a meeting on film incentives.
The president took advantage of her morning conference to give her version. According to her, Hayek recognized “the effort we are making in the government.” But Sheinbaum went further, trying to distance the gesture from any specific political flag.
“Yesterday, I think that beyond the 4T, it was a demonstration in defense of Mexico, I think that is very, very important, and the work of Mexican artists,”
he expressed.
The key phrase, however, came later. It was a direct shot at those who have criticized the star’s presence at an official event.
“There are those who cannot bear to speak well of the President or to speak well of Mexico,”
Sheinbaum added with that tone that we already know.
On Sunday, from the same stage of the Adolfo López Mateos Hall, Hayek herself had released a line that today resonates with another echo. Looking at Sheinbaum, he said: “Maybe what we didn’t have was this president.”
A personal compliment that the Chief Executive now wraps in the flag of patriotism and support for the cultural sector. The strategy is clear: transform a photo into a symbol of national unity against the ‘water parties’.
The message is served. In this government, a praise from an international celebrity is not just a praise. It is an act of ‘defense of Mexico’. And whoever criticizes that gesture, according to official logic, is criticizing the country itself.
A master move to shield yourself. Or another example of the eternal political game where every gesture is a piece on the board.
