A Milestone in Equality Policies
The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, set a precedent in Silao, Guanajuato, with the opening of the LIBRE Center, a strategic project designed to promote the autonomy, protection and comprehensive development of women. This model, replicated in 678 municipalities nationwide, integrates free services such as training workshops, legal advice, psychological support and sports activities, consolidating itself as an axis of social transformation.
A Space with a Comprehensive Approach
During her speech, Sheinbaum emphasized: “Here women decide their path: learn, grow or undertake. We are not superior or inferior, we are equal.” The president stressed that these centers symbolize the historical recognition of the Mexican women who have built the country, highlighting the power of sisterhood. Each headquarters operates under three pillars:
- Education: Technical training and personal development courses.
- Health: Psychological therapy and monitoring of cases of violence.
- Community: Support networks between users and employment links.
Citlalli Hernández Mora, Secretary of Women, explained that the 19 centers in Guanajuato—operational since June—reflect the constitutional reforms promoted to guarantee substantive equality. For her part, Libyan Governor Dennise García Muñoz Ledo highlighted the alliance between governments: “This shows that working as a team multiplies results.”
Impact and National Projection
With a coordinated federal and state investment, the LIBRE model seeks to close gaps in areas with high rates of marginality. Official data reveal that 60% of users access specialized services for the first time. In addition, its architecture—designed with a gender perspective—includes safe areas for children, facilitating the participation of mothers.
Sheinbaum announced that the goal is to cover 2,500 municipalities before 2026, prioritizing regions with violence alerts. “Mexico advances when its women have real opportunities,” she concluded. This project is aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in equity and reduction of inequalities.
