Official recognition
Claudia Sheinbaum dedicated a space in the morning to praise the governor of Tamaulipas, Américo Villarreal. He said that it is very worthwhile to know the initiatives he promotes, some together with the Autonomous University of Tamaulipas (UAT).
“The work that has been done in Tamaulipas is really very good,” he expressed from the National Palace.
The four star projects
The president specifically referred to four developments. The first is the modernization of a UAT aircraft with cutting-edge technology to monitor the Gulf of Mexico.
The second is a factory that is already operating and converts plastics into fuel. An advance, in his words, crucial for the circular economy.
The other two are the production of sorghum tortillas, to give this crop a different use, and the modernization of charcoal production for rural communities.
“At least those four are the ones I know, but they continue to develop technological innovation,” Sheinbaum insisted.
The context of money
The recognition comes with a background announcement: a budget increase of 7 billion pesos for science and technology by the Federation. Sheinbaum pointed out that Tamaulipas will intensify efforts to attract more resources and scale these projects.
A curious fact: during his speech he also mentioned, almost in passing, support for ranchers for the screwworm in states such as Sonora, Durango and Coahuila. He added that in some cases “the resources” for this extraordinary support have not been exhausted.
The question hanging in the air after the praise is simple: How much of the new federal budget will actually end up funding these state innovations? Time, as always, will give its verdict.
