The political act that does reach the table
From San José Chiapa, Puebla, Claudia Sheinbaum turned on the engines of her flagship promise: Housing for Well-being. It wasn’t just a speech. It was the physical delivery of 240 new houses and the official forgiveness of 577 loans that families could no longer pay.
This is just the first act of a monumental work. The national goal is to build 1.8 million homes and restructure 5 million loans considered ‘unpayable’, many inherited from past administrations.
“The Fourth Transformation defends and works for the people of Mexico, for their rights… that is what it is dedicated to: the happiness of the people,” said the president from the podium.
His rhetoric connects directly with basic needs: shelter, health, education, salary. It is the central script of the government. But behind the scenes, the numbers paint a complex reality.
More than a speech, a mechanism
The program has three key legs: reduce procedures to obtain a house, forgive or reduce old debts, and offer zero-rate loans for those who are not in systems such as Infonavit.
The cold data says that so far this year, 1,292 homes have been delivered in 15 states. Puebla received 240 this Saturday. But Secretary Edna Elena Vega Rangel revealed that the goal for the state rose from 48 thousand to 74 thousand houses. That means a brutal investment: more than 44 billion pesos.
“The 577 families that received their certificate today… have their credits settled,” confirmed Jabnely Maldonado Maza, from Fovissste. They are part of a list of 400 thousand affiliates who will benefit.
Meanwhile, an economic ‘Development Pole’ was also announced in San José Chiapa. Sheinbaum was clear: it will be done with consensus and without dispossessing lands. A necessary nod to the conflictive history of megaprojects.
For Lorena Reyes Hernández, beneficiary, this is not statistics. It’s a dream come true. That is the powerful narrative that the government wants to project: from promise to turnkey.
The question that remains is whether the machinery will be able to maintain this pace to reach that million-dollar goal. For now, in Puebla, the curtain opens with applause.
