Sheinbaum sets stance on the Global Sumud case
President Claudia Sheinbaum assured that her government will defend human rights in the face of the detention of five Mexicans in international waters. The crew of the Global Sumud flotilla were traveling with humanitarian aid towards Palestine when they were intercepted by Israeli authorities.
“Our position is always the defense of human rights wherever and particularly with this aggression that has no justification,” declared Sheinbaum in his morning conference.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will disseminate the most recent information about the case, the president said.
Reactions to the release of the detainees
Family, friends and pro-Palestinian groups have taken to the streets to demand the release of their compatriots. The humanitarian mission was blocked despite taking place in international waters, which has generated criticism of the Israeli government.
The Mexican government is evaluating diplomatic channels to guarantee the safe return of the five crew members.
