The president moves tokens (and papers) to buy anti-cancer drugs
In a move that seems taken from a “why didn’t they do it before?”, Claudia Sheinbaum announced that she authorized an express purchase of four oncology drugs. Yes, those that are missing in hospitals like Wi-Fi in rural areas. The president assured that they are already in the process of acquiring them through a reverse auction (or “like in MercadoLibre, but with lives at stake,” the cynics would say).
Between procedures and emergencies
“Earlier they told us that this could be done – said Sheinbaum with the tone of someone who has just discovered a bureaucratic hack –. We already published the market research and now comes the auction.” In other words: the process advances at the speed of government processing, but with VIP urgency. Of course, he highlighted that they achieved a reduction of more than 50% in some drugs. What was that “cheap is expensive” thing? Well, here’s hoping not.
Meanwhile, parents of children with cancer are still in “this is not enough” mode. In March, they criticized the financial support of 6,400 pesos every two months – which in medical expenses evaporate like a viral meme – and demanded real solutions to the shortage. According to official figures, there are 3,000 minors in the public system waiting for treatment. Translation: 3,000 reasons for this not to be another “coming soon…” eternal.
